Who Shot JFK? Assassination in American Culture MN742

The assassination of President John F. Kennedy on November 22, 1963 was a turning point in American history. Despite the passage of time, there is still no consensus of what happened and who killed the President. Even more, how does the assassination fit into the events of the time? Assassinations, by their nature, might seem an aberrant event, but when examined more closely can be seen as a “sign of the times.”

There have been over twenty-five assassinations and assassination attempts on the presidents. However, none of these events occurred in a vacuum – each was related, in some way, with the events of that time. This class will examine the assassinations and assassination attempts on the presidents dating from the time of Andrew Jackson to the current period. Each of these events will be examined to see how the act fits into the broader scheme of American history. In addition, there will also be briefer examinations of the assassinations of other well-known figures such as Huey Long, Malcolm X, Robert f. Kennedy, and Dr. Martin Luther King. Jr.
