      Bridges To Sustainable Communities Symposium

      Join us for a day of learning how "Bridges to Sustainable Communities" concepts support every sector to build systemic change, strengthen individuals and communities, and enhance your local organization - education, law enforcement, health care, faith families, government, non-profit and social services can collectively benefit from bringing everyone to the table to create solutions to poverty.  The day will include hearing from the keynote speaker, "Bridges to Sustainable Communities" author and international consultant on poverty and community issues, Philip DeVol, and sharing in two panel discussions with those who have successfully implemented the Bridges Out of Poverty concepts to strengthen their communities. Registrants will receive a copy of Philip DeVol's book, a continental breakfast & lunch voucher for Patriot Dining Hall at The Mount. Free parking in Mount St. Mary's University Lots 8 & 10. Learning Outcomes: Learn to apply the Bridges Out of Poverty framework to create sustainable communities Have a clear understanding of how the Getting Ahead curriculum's philosophy and process promotes self-actualization and self-efficacy for graduates Understand how the Bridges Out of Poverty framework can be adapted to empower all sectors to collaborate in building communities where everyone can live well.  Schedule: 8:30 a.m. Continental Breakfast and Registration 9:30 a.m. Introduction 9:45 a.m. Key note address by Bridges to Sustainable Communities author Phil DeVol 10:45 a.m. 15-minute Break 11:00 a.m. How To Build a Bridges Community Discussion Panel with Phil DeVol, followed by open discussion with participants, including: Kinzers PA Pequea Valley School District Together Initiative Partner, Superintendent Erik Orndorff, D.Ed. Howard County MD Getting Ahead Program Director, Ms. Marchelle LeBlanc Howard County MD Department of Community Resources and Services Director, Jacqueline R. Scott, J.D, M.L. 12 p.m. Lunch 1:00 p.m. The Impact Panel Discussion - Getting Ahead Graduates share how the program has changed their lives, with time for Q & A 2:00 p.m. Closing remarks
