What Florida's Voters Should Know About the 2020 Legislative Session

Sandy Parker, founder and publisher of Sparker's Soapbox, will present “Looking Ahead: What Florida's Voters Should Know About the 2020 Legislative Session” through The Renaissance Academy, Florida Gulf Coast University’s lifelong learning program for adults, at various Naples locations December 2, 3 and 10.

With the legislative session just around the corner, Sandy Parker, known for her objective and nonpartisan presentation of state and local political news, is setting the stage for what’s to come.

“Many Collier residents aren’t familiar with Florida government and the issues our representatives address on our behalf,” Parker says. “But it’s important to have some understanding of them in order to be informed when next year’s elections come around.”

The legislative session doesn’t begin until January 14, but already more than 1,600 bills have been introduced in the Florida House and Senate, including more than 20 by representatives of Collier County.

Public education, guns in the classroom, voting and elections, home rule (local control), the environment and access to abortion are some of the topics that are likely to be addressed in the upcoming session. In this program, participants will learn about Florida government, the hot policy issues, and more—and become more informed voters in the process.
