      Toledo Skeptics’ September Roundtable

In September, let's return to Philosophy! We'll be meeting on Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at 6:30 PM, at the Heatherdowns Branch of the Toledo Library to discuss Albert Camus.Camus is not a skeptical philosopher – his views correspond more strongly with absurdism – but his essay, The Almond Trees, is a brilliant examination of the failures of reason and rationality to overcome tyranny. To quote: Our task as men is to find the few principles that will calm the anguish of free souls.  We must mend what has been torn apart, make justice imaginable again in a world so obviously unjust, give happiness a meaning once more to peoples poisoned by the misery of the century.  Naturally, it is a superhuman task.  But superhuman is the term for tasks men take a long time to accomplish, that’s all. I can’t wait to talk about this essay, Camus’ thoughts on reason and progress, and what living in an absurd universe means for thinking people with humanist values.
