The venue began life in the 1980s, when it was known as the NEC Arena Birmingham, before officially becoming the LG Arena Birmingham September 1 2008.
The venue has undergone a massive £29 million revamp as a result of the LG Electronics sponsorship, resulting in the LG Arena Birmingham now featuring brand new seating, restaurants, bars and improved backstage areas. Work on the venue was completed October 2009, with singing legend Tom Jones christening the new, state of the art facility on October 18th.
Metallica, Rhianna, Lady Gaga, Greenday, KISS and Jay-Z have since followed suit, featuring on the LG Arena schedule.
The increase in capacity to 16,000 means that the LG Arena Birmingham is now on par with some of the busiest music venues in the world, putting the UK's Second City firmly on the entertainment map.
