York Symphony Orchestra: String Fever CANCELLED

      2019-20 Classical Series

Dear Patrons and Friends of the YSO,

As you know, the York Symphony sadly had to cancel this past Saturday’s ‘I KNOW That Tune!’ Pops concert in response to Governor Wolf and Mayor Helfrich’s directive on the COVID-19 Coronavirus. Additionally, yesterday the CDC recommended a moratorium on public events of 50 or more people for the next 8 weeks. For the health and safety of our patrons, musicians and staff, the YSO must regrettably take the following actions on our remaining 19-20 performances…

      • Cancellation of “String Fever” on April 4th
      • Postponement of “Beethoven’s 9th” from May 2nd to a later date TBD
        • All current tickets to Beethoven’s 9th will be honored at the new date. Upon announcement, if you’re unable to attend the new date, please contact the box office for other options.

“WHAT CAN I DO?” • “HOW CAN WE HELP?”

Many of you may be asking how you can help the YSO in this unprecedented period. The best way for you to help is to please consider donating the value of your tickets back to the orchestra as a tax-deductible contribution. This gift will help the YSO in so many ways, such as…

      • Providing financial support to our freelance orchestra personnel as they navigate the economic uncertainty of this new reality.
      • Funding daily operations and planning for future performances and education activities

If unable to donate your tickets, you may also exchange your seats for a 20-21 season program or apply the value to a 20-21 subscription. Or refunds are available.

For assistance, you may call or email the Appell Center’s box office at 717-846-1111 or boxoffice@appellcenter.org. To maintain safety of patrons and staff, the box office will be operating at reduced hours from 10am-2pm Monday - Thursday and will only be accepting phone calls and emails—no walk-ins.

Your patience is inspiring, and your support at this time is deeply appreciated. On behalf of the musicians of the York Symphony Orchestra and Maestro Lawrence Golan, we eagerly await the moment we can share when we perform for you again.

Wishing you good and stable health!

Be whisked away on a wave of emotions by this enthralling all-strings concert. The emotional Adagio for Strings by Barber has been noted in the New York Times as the adagio for the ages. Paying tribute to Mozart, Tchaikovsky weaves a captivating and enchanting melody throughout his Serenade in C Major. Anna Clyne’s Within Her Arms was a memento to her departed mother; the music portrays a narrative of grief and mourning.
